ON YOUR MARK
PLEASE SEE THE LETTER BELOW FROM OUR PRESIDENT ABOUT THE CANCELLATION OF THE CONFERENCE FOR JULY 2020
I hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy in these turbulent and unpredictable times. The CoMA Board has been monitoring this COVID-19 situation closely and we have some good news, as well as some bad news.
Let’s get the bad news out of the way:
On Saturday, March 28th, the CoMA Board took a vote and unanimously decided to cancel this year’s conference “ON YOUR MARK”. We think it is in the best interest for the health and safety of our presenters, members as well as the organization as a whole. While it pains me greatly to have to write this letter, we believe it is the right thing to do. 2020 will be the first year since the conference began in 1996 that it won’t be happening. We are already planning for 2021, and we are going to come back with a bang next year! As of right now, our dates for next year are July 16-18, 2021.
Now onto the good news!
We are going to continue to do our design competition with the theme “MAKE YOUR MARK.” This will be an online-only exhibition and will be a great way to stay in touch with each other while we are social distancing. We encourage you all to dig deep into your well of creativity and share what you are doing with us on social media. We would love to see you all explore using some new materials and tools, and to just have fun in the studio! Just because we are apart right now does not mean we need to be isolated. More information about this fun opportunity for our members will come in another email.
We are also taking this opportunity to share more of our member’s work, videos, instructional content, etc. on our social media. Please be sure you are using #ColoradoMetalsmiths in your metalsmith-like posts so we can share all the cool stuff you are doing.
As always, we are so grateful for our vibrant and strong Metalsmithing community in Colorado and beyond. Our membership is the most important thing to us and we couldn’t do what we do without each and every one of you.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. I have included my contact information below.
Take care, and I hope this strange time means more time in our studios,
Colorado Metalsmithing Association
